The Dave Malenke Servant Leader Scholarship:  

Is made possible through the Dave Malenke scholarship fund and the Malenke family.

Notes on how Dave Malenke Servant Leader Scholarship came to be:

Dave Malenke was one of the founders of the Maple Grove Youth Football Association in 2011.  He spent the next decade volunteering endless hours as a coach, board member and mentor for both the youth program and Maple Grove Senior HS football.  Dave was a man of action and integrity; he embodied servant leadership, not only through his affiliation with youth athletics, but also as a Scout troop leader, and distinguished veteran of the United States Air Force.  Dave lived an exemplary life and his impact on football in our community cannot be overstated.  Accordingly, each year we celebrate his life at “Dave Malenke Youth Football Night,”  which was named in his honor.

As well, the David Malenke Servant Leader Scholarship was established in his honor and will benefit a graduating Maple Grove HS football player who best exemplifies the character traits most important to Dave during his life. 

Dave Malenke Servant Leader Scholarship Details:

The goal is to reward a servant-minded Crimson football player who has consistently participated in activities where they have prioritized the needs, growth and well-being of others or an organization above their own.  They have shown a commitment to participating in community service, leadership in school or community organizations

Players must have participated with the Maple Grove Youth Football Association in 7th & 8th grade and played 4 years of high school football at Maple Grove. Additionally, there must be no violations of the Crimson football oath during their 4-year high school career.

Applicants should provide a short essay of examples of servant leadership and/or community involvement.  Applicants are also encouraged to provide a paragraph about their experience participating in the MGYFA program. The essay should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, or other leader. The scholarship is open to any high school senior meeting the stated eligibility guidelines. 

The $1,000 Dave Malenke Servant Leader Scholarship will be paid out directly to the post-secondary school the recipient attends.  Eligibility includes 4-year colleges, 2-year college programs or trade schools.  

Applications should be submitted to davemalenkescholarship@mgyfa.com.  The scholarship will be awarded at the high school football banquet and will be applied to fees the following fall semester.
